Gabriel Moreno

Gabriel Moreno launches his 13th book of poetry, the fourth one to be published in the English language, “Heart Mortally Wounded By Six Strings.” The book is a compilation of Moreno poems written during the last four years and features both Spanish and English literary and cultural influences exploring themes as varied as inspiration, excess, longing, art and the contemporary sociological and philosophical debacle of The United Kingdom.

The collection will be launched at the legendary Jazz Servant Quarters in Dalston, London and will feature a recital by the poet accompanied by pianist Ned Cartwright plus musical performances by Alice Mary Jelaska, Catherine Rudie, The Quivering Poets and special guests from the London Alternative Folk scene.

Gabriel Moreno is a Gibraltarian bilingual poet and singer songwriter. After periods spent living in Barcelona, New York and across South America, he currently resides in London. He has been likened to poetical singers such as Nick Cave, Bill Callahan and Leonard Cohen, and has released 13 poetry books up to date including three collections in the English language, The Hollow Tortoise (Orion publishers 2013) The Moon and The Sparrow (Omicron 2015) The Passer-By (Mundo de la Cultura 2017) and the new book published by Patuka Press and funded by Gibraltar Cultural Services, Heart Mortally Wounded By Six Strings.

Moreno’s poems have featured in prestigious UK Literary magazines such as Acumen, Annexe and Cafe Writers. He was also nominated Gibraltar’s Cultural Ambassador 2022.

As a songwriter he has four studio albums, has been featured on BBC6 music and has performed at the main stage of The Great British Folk Festival, ELY Folk Festival, Rochester Folk Festival, Purbeck Valley Folk Festival, Wilderness Festival, Costa Del Folk Festival (Stratford-Upon-Avon), Blues and Roots Festival Cornwall and many other festivals around the country.
