Brooke Sharkey
An introspective sound adorned with emotional vocals and sliding string sections that create a tense air of melancholy that few others can master so simply and so elegantly, Brooke Sharkey oozes a creativity that radiates emotion. She is a woman who bleeds artistry.
After a colourful upbringing between France and England, Brooke began busking her music on the streets from the age of 16, developing the intense narrative style which has won her admiration from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs (BBC6 Music).
Brooke resists categorisation, but with a vocal style that switches effortlessly between lithely melodic and fiery, set against a deeply atmospheric musical backdrop, comparisons with the likes of Kate Bush, Ane Brun and Cat Power are inevitable. What sets her apart is her songwriting, with its unique phrasing and sense of space.
With four releases since 2010 under her belt, including the acclaimed ‘One Dress’ and ‘I Crossed the Line’, Brooke is ready to release her much anticipated, second, full album.
The album features her long term collaborator and singer / songwriter in his own right, Adam Beattie (www.adambeattie.com) on electric guitar and backing vocals, Jez Houghton on French horn and Sam Pert on drums.
With support from Gabriel Moreno.
