Cykada + Run Logan Run
Cutting-edge Jazz outfit Cykada set the bar at this year’s EFG London Jazz Festival.
London Jazz outfit, Cykada, have forged a unique and infectious sound over the years. Combining electronics with live instruments, UK Jazz with world music, and elements of soundsystem culture with free jazz, Cykada have crafted a truly idiosyncratic sound unlike anything before them. As such, they’re bringing their dizzying musical skill to Servant Jazz Quarters as part of this year’s EFG London Jazz Festival.
Musically, each member of this exhilarating six-piece are amongst the most impressive players the UK has to offer. From the unfathomable complexity of the polyrhythmic percussion, to the Miles Davis-esque modality in the melodic horn lines, Cykada are truly captivating for both Jazz fanatics and those that want to party.
Joining Cykada will be one of the most exciting and intense Jazz ensembles around. Run Logan Run are a head on collision of pounding tribal drums and screaming guttural saxophone. Architects of intense contrast the duo’s diverse and precise instrumentation regularly flirts with fragility and raw power. Formed through a shared passion for improvisation, spiritual jazz and heavier experimental music, they have been authoring their own narrative in the new wave of crossover jazz, whilst touring the UK extensively, sharing stages with the likes of Colin Stetson, Melt Yourself Down and Shabaka Hutchings.
This is a rare evening of fearlessly experimental Jazz, the likes of which are all too sparse in this day and age. Don’t miss this visceral display of improvisation and musical impulse from two of the UK’s most pioneering Jazz bands. Get your tickets now.
