Pete Aves & The Manuals
Pete Aves sixth album ‘See How’ was released to critical acclaim in March 2016. Q magazine gave it four stars and said ‘catharsis has never sounded so sweet.’ Record Collector called the album ‘transcendent, compelling’ and dished out another four stars, while Uncut noted ‘there’s a touch of Richard Thompson about the guitar playing and something of Teddy Thompson about the voice.’ However, Pete Aves is very much his own man, and sought after as both a guitar for hire and a solo artist. Recent gigs have included guitar duties with folk rock legends the Strawbs ( Sandy Denny’s first band) and the legendary Shirley Collins, both at Cecil Sharp House, while at the other end of the spectrum Pete recently gigged with rising Dublin folk miscreants Lynched and UK stalwarts Turin Brakes. Pete thickens the musical stew with drums and keyboards supplied by renowned Bristol jazzmen Mark Whitlam and Dan Moore. Prepare to be unprepared.
As well a being a member of the High Llamas since 1999 Pete has worked with Nina Persson( The Cardigans) Nick Lowe, Lee Hazlewood, Petula Clark, Harry Hill, Arthur Lee, Jarvis Cocker, Richard Hawley, The Undertones, Richard Youngs, Butch Vig ( Garbage), Massive Attack, Stereolab and many more.
