Resolution 88
Resolution 88 perform at SJQ for the first time, coinciding with the launch of the band’s 4th studio album; “Vortex.” The album will be performed live and copies on limited edition 180g vinyl and CDs will be available for sale (and signing by the band).
One of the UK’s leading exponents of funk jazz, Resolution 88’s music is synonymous with the beautiful tones of the Fender Rhodes and fuses the sound of the modern London jazz scene with the inspirational greats of the 70’s such as Herbie Hancock’s Head Hunters and the classic Mizell Brothers productions. They’ve brought their high energy performances to a range of prestigious venues and festivals around the UK and Europe, including live shows supporting Snarky Puppy, Roy Ayers, Marcus Miller, Stanley Clarke, Larry Mizell & the Blackbyrds, Butcher Brown, the Yellowjackets and many more.
For their new album ‘Vortex’, bandleader and composer Tom O’Grady went all-out to recreate the sound world from his favourite Mizell Brothers productions and Herbie Hancock records; everything you hear on this album, from the Mellotron to the Echoplex, from the Oberheim 4 Voice to the glockenspiel – is the real thing.
The artwork was beautifully painted by Tokio Aoyama – inspired by the title track ‘Vortex’ – and as an homage to the works of other Japanese artists such as Nobuhiro Nakanishi who painted the cover of Herbie Hancock’s live album ‘Flood’.
