Rob Barron Trio

Very excited to welcome the Rob Barron Trio for this week’s jazz night.

After leaving Leeds College of Music with a BA Hons degree in Jazz studies and the College Award for Outstanding Performance, pianist Rob Barron moved to London where he studied at The Guildhall School of Music.

Since then Rob has been a mainstay of the London jazz and studio scene, including work with US stars, Al Jarreau, Marlena Shaw, Phil Woods, Benny Golson and Grant Stewart, leading UK musicians Jacqui Dankworth, Claire Martin, Dave O Higgins, Jean Toussaint and Colin Oxley. As a session musician rob has played and recorded with Paloma Faith, The BBC Big Band, and arranged and recorded music for the Baz Lurhman film “The Great Gatsby” Fluent and creative, Rob is considered to be one of the most talented pianists of his generation.

Drawing influences from the classic jazz piano trios of the golden age of jazz such as George Shearing, Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole and Wynton Kelly, the Rob Barron Trio plays new exciting arrangements of timeless popular songs, from Rodgers and Hart to Stevie Wonder.

“Pianist Rob Barron was particularly impressive, his spidery, Horace Silver-like runs carving out their own space amongst the rest of the band.” The Guardian

“Man, You play great, I love the way you connect your sound.” Benny Green.
